Clients call after a broken pipe, roof leak, hot water tank failure or heavy rains to clean up water damage in their home or business. Calls also come in for soot damage cleanup services following a fire or oil furnace puff back. This case study of a Concord, NH church is an example of a soot damage cleanup project completed by Soil-Away.

Oil Furnace Causes Soot Damage

A Concord church had an aging oil furnace. The church leadership and congregation were hoping to limp the furnace through just one more winter. Unfortunately an unforeseen cold snap made the decision for them. Three unseasonably cold early-October nights caused the furnace to kick on. It started to operate before its seasonal maintenance and cleaning. The result was a furnace malfunction causing a puff back.

Soot spewed throughout the church. The sanctuary, classrooms and offices all sustained soot damage. The church leadership was stunned and did not know how to deal with the mess. Fortunately one of the members of the congregation had worked with Soil-Away in the past for a fire damage restoration project. The pastor called Soil-Away immediately to schedule soot damage cleanup services.

Soot Damage Cleanup Following Furnace Puff Back

A Soil-Away project manager met with the pastor the very same day to put together a game plan for the soot damage cleanup project. The plan was simple: work in the high priority areas first and go from there. They needed their sanctuary to have their Sunday services. It was already Wednesday so everyone had to move efficiently.

Soil-Away assigned three property damage restoration crews to the church. They were to work Thursday, Friday and even Saturday if necessary to get the sanctuary clean and ready for Sunday. Using special soot damage cleanup sponges and HEPA vacuums the restoration crews went to work. Ceilings and walls were cleaned and deodorized. Windows and pews were washed down. Carpets were steam cleaned. Slowly but surely soot damage was disappearing. The entire sanctuary was completed by Friday night. The church could hold their normal Sunday routine without any disruption from the puff back.

Soft Contents Cleaned by Esporta Wash System

One unique challenge this project posed was that of the choir robes. Over forty choir robes were housed in a closet adjacent to the sanctuary. They also sustained heavy soot damage. The choir director thought each robe would need to be replaced. Soil-Away had a solution in their Esporta Wash System. Restoring soft-good items and textiles such as clothing, bedding and bags are not an issue for Soil-Away. The soft contents cleaning division was able to save all the choir robes by successfully removing all the soot damage.

All I have to say is WOW and FANTASTIC. I just got done building out my new professional office with Soil-Away’s construction division and they went ABOVE and BEYOND. Scott and Mike, the carpenters are skilled artisans. The project got done on time and the project came in on budget! The finished results have been blowing people away. Much better than I could have anticipated. Anyone is welcome to come to our office, Bright Light Chiropractic in Hooksett to check out the fine work they did. Simply can’t sing enough praises for them. Sorry that the picture doesn’t do the job justice. Thank you Jack and your team. -Dr. Jay

Since day one, I’ve known the owner, Jack, to be a hard-working and selfless leader. Through the efforts of him and his team, he was able to restore my flooded restaurant to tip-top shape. I was amazed with Jack’s orderliness throughout the entire process. Jack has proven to me that he is trustworthy, as both a friend and an individual in the work environment.

Highly recommend Soil-Away. A pipe in our upstairs bathroom gave and sent water down through a wall for at least a day before we noticed water dripping through our kitchen ceiling. Our insurance put us in touch with Soil-Away and they were at our house the next morning to assess the damage and dry things out. Joe, Ray and Tom were phenomenal to work with. They explained every part of the process to us and were very professional and friendly. If you have to deal with similar issues call Soil-Away, you won’t regret it.
