Water Damaged House Repair – Kennebunk, ME

Written by jsolloway on . Posted in , , .

Water damage – the mere thought of it is enough to cause that sinking feeling in your heart. Water damage can create all kinds of harm. It is disheartening to see your home in such a state. Water can damage electronics, wood furniture and carpets to name a few. It can cause structural damage to your home and is a breeding ground for mold. It can also make quite a dent in your pocketbook. There’s no guarantee that your home will never be affected by water – residents of Kennebunk Maine; be warned. If your home has been invaded by water, you need to call a water damaged house repair specialist, pronto.

Common sources of water damage

Water damage is, of course, caused by water. This comes about for many reasons. Natural disasters (floods, hurricanes, nor’easters) can cause severe damage as well as melting snow from a frosty winter. Of course, these aren’t the only causes. Other causes include:

  • burst water pipes
  • leaky roofs
  • overflowing washing machines
  • cracks in the foundation
  • leaky dishwashers and other appliances
  • ice dams

Water damage needs to be attended to immediately in order to save furniture, clothing, carpets, upholstery and other items. Wooden items can warp; and mold can latch onto these and other items. It can take less than 48 hours for mold to start growing. If your home has suffered water damage – take heed. If water damage is left unattended for an extended period of time, you may be subject to mold. To avoid these issues, hire a water damaged house repair company.

Health hazards with mold and water damage

Mold can cause many health problems especially among those with respiratory problems such as asthma, emphysema and COPD. The very young and the elderly can be easily affected. People with allergies to mold and those with immune deficiencies (HIV and those undergoing chemotherapy) can be affected as well.

Mold isn’t the only danger. Water damage itself poses its own threats. Things such as electrocution, collapsing ceilings and slip-and-falls must all be considered. An additional threat water damage poses is that of contamination. Make sure to understand where the water came from and what the water traveled through? Is the source of water a kitchen sink or a sewer pipe? Did the water travel through your attic or basement or perhaps across a parking lot or lawn? Answering these questions will help you assess the potential contamination risks at play.

All I have to say is WOW and FANTASTIC. I just got done building out my new professional office with Soil-Away’s construction division and they went ABOVE and BEYOND. Scott and Mike, the carpenters are skilled artisans. The project got done on time and the project came in on budget! The finished results have been blowing people away. Much better than I could have anticipated. Anyone is welcome to come to our office, Bright Light Chiropractic in Hooksett to check out the fine work they did. Simply can’t sing enough praises for them. Sorry that the picture doesn’t do the job justice. Thank you Jack and your team. -Dr. Jay

Since day one, I’ve known the owner, Jack, to be a hard-working and selfless leader. Through the efforts of him and his team, he was able to restore my flooded restaurant to tip-top shape. I was amazed with Jack’s orderliness throughout the entire process. Jack has proven to me that he is trustworthy, as both a friend and an individual in the work environment.

Highly recommend Soil-Away. A pipe in our upstairs bathroom gave and sent water down through a wall for at least a day before we noticed water dripping through our kitchen ceiling. Our insurance put us in touch with Soil-Away and they were at our house the next morning to assess the damage and dry things out. Joe, Ray and Tom were phenomenal to work with. They explained every part of the process to us and were very professional and friendly. If you have to deal with similar issues call Soil-Away, you won’t regret it.
