Max, the school district’s superintendent walked slowly down the hall. His heart was filled with pride over how well things were going at this Nashua school. He walked up the stairs to the next floor of the two story building. Just as he reached the top of the stairs his nose caught a musty scent. His heart skipped a beat. Is that mold I smell? He thought. Wasting no time he followed the odor until he came to the attic. He opened the door. As his eyes adjusted to the dimness, he noticed a black slimy substance on the walls and floor – MOLD. Wasting no time he raced back to his office. He told his secretary to find him an excellent mold removal company. With children around, they had to remedy the situation as soon as possible. Mold growth is not acceptable in a school and this was going to be dealt with quickly.
How and where does mold develop? Mold forms in places where the humidity is high especially if the structure has had contact with water. In this case the culprit was a small hole in the roof. If it hadn’t been raining, Max may never have noticed it. The moisture and humidity of the school made it the perfect breeding ground for mold. Mold is highly destructive. It can destroy clothing, books, and furniture; it can even cause structural damage. Mold can also be harmful to your health. It can cause respiratory damage to children, the elderly, people with mold allergies and those with weakened immune systems. Some symptoms are sneezing, watery eyes and coughing as well as skin irritations. Luckily, no one seemed to be showing any signs.
While it is difficult to maintain a mold-free environment (mold is everywhere), Max took precautions. He had the roof repaired. Then he made sure areas where moisture builds were wiped down often (showers, sinks and the areas around them). He had ventilation fans like the ones in the shower rooms, installed in the bathrooms. He also researched dehumidifiers and found just the right ones for the rooms in the school.
Max’s secretary researched the internet and found Soil-Away Cleaning and Restoration. She checked out their credentials and decided this was the best company to aid them in mold removal. She made the right choice. Soil-Away, an IICRC master-certified company with over 25 years of service was the way to go. A quick call (603-641-6555) to the Soil-Away office and a project manager was on the way to scope the job.
Remediation crews arrived later that day; ready to start work after the students had left for the evening. With the aid of moisture meters, they detected the amount of moisture present. They used a dry ice blaster to remove mold from the structure. They used HEPA vacuums to make sure that the school was completely safe from excessive mold. Soil-Away came through! Max’s pride and joy was saved! It didn’t stop there, Max made sure to spread the word of Soil-Away’s fine work. He told all his friends and colleagues of his secretary’s great find. If you need mold removal get Soil-Away they’re available 24/7. Call them at 603-641-6555.
NOTE: This case-study is based on a true story, but the city has been changed.
