Cleaning up After a Flood – Litchfield, NH 03052

Written by jsolloway on . Posted in , , .

It’s a situation many Litchfield, NH residents know well: You wake up, ready to start your day, only to find out that there’s flooding in your house. It could be from heavy rain or snowmelt that found its way into your basement, a pipe burst, appliance failure or roof leak. Regardless of the source of water damage, now your plans for the day are completely thrown off! While this disruption may mess with your routine, there’s no reason for the cleaning up after a flood to be as painful. Know that there are ways to confidently proceed to make sure that you get the job done right.

Make sure the service is legitimate

The first thing you need to do is make sure that the service you call is legitimate. Some services, like storm chasers, will go after places that have just experienced flooding to make money, without the experience they really need to make sure that they can handle cleaning up after a flood. The signs to look out for, among others, are an inability to show credentials, lack of references, too good to be true prices, and high-pressure tactics. Reading reviews about the service online, asking after references and credentials, and in general getting recommendations from people who have previously used services are great ways to avoid getting fooled by someone trying to take advantage of you.

Services to expect when cleaning up after a flood

After ensuring the disaster cleanup service company you call is legitimate, here are some services that you should expect during the course of the restoration process (and which Soil-Away offers):

  • Site Evaluation
  • Comprehensive Documentation
  • Water Extraction
  • Property Cleanup and Sanitization
  • Structural Drying
  • Contents Restoration
  • Insurance Billing
  • Emphasis On Satisfaction

Some of these may seem complicated, but ultimately what they mean is that the service will figure out what caused the flooding, document it, remove the water quickly, dispose of unsalvageable materials, clean and dry the structure, restore your belongings, and take the stress of insurance billing off your shoulders. This process is simultaneous to staying in constant communication with you during the whole ordeal to ensure you are satisfied every step of the way.

Water damage prevention

You now have a service for cleaning up after a flood in Soil-Away, but going forward it’s always best to prevent flooding and water damage before it happens if you can. At a minimum try to reduce your exposure to flooding so that the damage it causes won’t be as extensive. Some ways to do this include, but aren’t limited to: make sure excessive snow isn’t allowed to build up around the foundation, inspect exterior drainage (gutters, slope of land for rain runoff, etc.), make sure items stored in the basement are in plastic totes instead of cardboard boxes, check for cracks in the foundation, windows, doors and the overall structure of the house. If necessary, look into having a sump pump installed in your basement to keep the rising water levels below your house from seeping into your building. Finally, have a conversation with your insurance agent to double check what kind of coverage you have for water and flood damage.

All I have to say is WOW and FANTASTIC. I just got done building out my new professional office with Soil-Away’s construction division and they went ABOVE and BEYOND. Scott and Mike, the carpenters are skilled artisans. The project got done on time and the project came in on budget! The finished results have been blowing people away. Much better than I could have anticipated. Anyone is welcome to come to our office, Bright Light Chiropractic in Hooksett to check out the fine work they did. Simply can’t sing enough praises for them. Sorry that the picture doesn’t do the job justice. Thank you Jack and your team. -Dr. Jay

Since day one, I’ve known the owner, Jack, to be a hard-working and selfless leader. Through the efforts of him and his team, he was able to restore my flooded restaurant to tip-top shape. I was amazed with Jack’s orderliness throughout the entire process. Jack has proven to me that he is trustworthy, as both a friend and an individual in the work environment.

Highly recommend Soil-Away. A pipe in our upstairs bathroom gave and sent water down through a wall for at least a day before we noticed water dripping through our kitchen ceiling. Our insurance put us in touch with Soil-Away and they were at our house the next morning to assess the damage and dry things out. Joe, Ray and Tom were phenomenal to work with. They explained every part of the process to us and were very professional and friendly. If you have to deal with similar issues call Soil-Away, you won’t regret it.
