Water Damage Repair – Exeter, NH 03833

Written by jsolloway on . Posted in , , .

A family in Exeter, NH was distraught when their basement flooded with dirty water from a nearby swamp.  They thought about cleaning up the damage themselves, but they were not sure of the severity of the water damage and decided it was best to contact professionals who have dealt with water damage repairs for over 25 years.  The family called Soil-Away Cleaning and Restoration Services, a family owned and operated cleaning and restoration service.  A professional then came out, assessed the damage, and coordinated repairs to their home to its pre-loss state.

Understanding the types of water damage

There are various types of water damage: sewer or water backup, overflow or discharge, and flood damages.  Sewer backup occurs when water is pushed into your home through the pipes from a sewer or drainage system.  Overflow water damage involves water escaping and overflowing from appliances (such as a bathtub or dish washer), pipes, or water outlets in your home.  Most people know what a flood is, but the insurance coverage for flood damage is very particular.
Flood damage is described as a body of water overflowing so that the level of water outside your home rises to a point where it enters your home.  It is important to know what kind of water damage you have so that you can adequately receive the proper water damage repairs you need.  If you seek further assistance in understanding water damage, contact local professionals who will help you understand the type of water damage and how to start the recovery process.

Knowing when you need a water damage repair service

Even if the water damage looks minimal, the water itself can pose a threat.  “Clear” water is generally harmless, coming from a clean water source such as kitchen sink. Generally, clear water can be cleaned up on your own assuming the volume is manageable.  Gray water is slightly dirty water, and usually comes from the overflowing of dishwashers, washing machines, toilets, or other appliances.   Often, it may have contaminants, but with the proper safety gear, you may be able to clean it up and remove it on your own.  If you find “black” water, however, you should contact professionals for water damage repair.  Black water contains waste, bacteria, and other serious contaminants, so you should not clean this up on your own.  Doing so can cause serious health problems.  The family in Exeter, NH who had the flood realized that the dirty water in their basement may have posed a threat.  They were right to call the professionals at Soil-Away Cleaning and Restoration Services to confirm whether this was the case or not.

Water damage cleanup tips

These are some tips to prevent further (secondary) damages after flooding:

  • Extract excessive or standing water
  • Remove and properly dispose of non-salvageable damaged and porous material
  • Dry out the affected area
  • Disinfect and sanitize areas after removal
  • Visually inspect for mold or other issues
  • Document damages and your cleanup efforts with pictures

While anyone may be able to repair minor water damage on their own, it is best to seek a professional water damage repair service.  They would be the best source to inform you about how to properly remove and repair water damage.

Scott and Mike, the carpenters are skilled artisans. The project got done on time and the project came in on budget! The finished results have been blowing people away. Much better than I could have anticipated. Anyone is welcome to come to our office, Bright Light Chiropractic in Hooksett to check out the fine work they did. Simply can’t sing enough praises for them. Sorry that the picture doesn’t do the job justice. Thank you Jack and your team. -Dr. Jay

Since day one, I’ve known the owner, Jack, to be a hard-working and selfless leader. Through the efforts of him and his team, he was able to restore my flooded restaurant to tip-top shape. I was amazed with Jack’s orderliness throughout the entire process. Jack has proven to me that he is trustworthy, as both a friend and an individual in the work environment.

Highly recommend Soil-Away. A pipe in our upstairs bathroom gave and sent water down through a wall for at least a day before we noticed water dripping through our kitchen ceiling. Our insurance put us in touch with Soil-Away and they were at our house the next morning to assess the damage and dry things out. Joe, Ray and Tom were phenomenal to work with. They explained every part of the process to us and were very professional and friendly. If you have to deal with similar issues call Soil-Away, you won’t regret it.
