Soot and Smoke Odor Removal- Goffstown, NH

Written by jsolloway on . Posted in , , .

The wood stove was the culprit. More specifically, it was the blocked up venting system leading into the chimney. Just twenty-four hours ago a Goffstown, New Hampshire (NH) family was living their normal life. That all got turned up-side-down when smoke started billowing throughout the house. The wood stove was malfunctioning. What ensued was a mess. A small fire started in the parlor. Thick smoke was everywhere. The fire department responded quickly and put the fire out with ease. Nevertheless, the fire damage was done. Professional soot and smoke odor removal services were needed ASAP. The Goffstown family would be temporarily displaced while a certified fire damage restoration company cleaned and deodorized.
Soil-Away Cleaning and Restoration Services was called in to perform the soot and smoke odor removal services at the Goffstown home. Emergency restoration crews worked with the family to identify important items that would be needed immediately. This largely consisted of clothing. Clothing that was saturated in heavy smoke odor. Four large canvas bags of soft contents were removed from the house. The emergency items were inventoried, cleaned, deodorized, and returned within twenty-four hours. Soil-Away delivered the soft contents to the hotel where the family was staying.
Soot and smoke odor removal following a wood stove fire is tedious work. The cleanup process would be executed in two simultaneous phases: structure and contents. Soil-Away crews worked to pack-out the balance of the soft contents. This included items such as clothing, jackets, shoes, bags, and linens. All these items smelled of smoke. Some were damaged by soot. All affected items were brought to Soil-Away’s soft contents restoration facility just twenty minutes away from Goffstown. Over twenty bags were removed from the house. These items would be processed over the following seventy-two hours. Soot damage and smoke odor would be completely eliminated.
Additional crews from Soil-Away’s soot and smoke odor removal team worked on the structure. Nearly every square inch of the Goffstown home would need to be cleaned and deodorized. The heavy smoke damage permeated ceilings, walls, and floors. Cabinets, counters, and appliances were also affected. The home was 2,200 square feet with nine finished rooms. Technicians methodically moved room by room. Every surface was washed by hand with great attention to detail. Following two days of labor the soot and smoke odor was removed from the Goffstown house. Ozone treatment was the final phase of the project. This took place for twenty-four hours. The soot and smoke odor removal process was complete.
Three days and four nights of being displaced was a challenge for the family. They never suspected such trouble from their wood burning stove. Much more attention was going to be dedicated to maintaining the wood stove, vent, and chimney. The Goffstown family was determined to avoid the need for soot and smoke odor removal services in the future. They were appreciative to Soil-Away and their professionalism. Soil-Away had them back in their Goffstown home in less than a week. This was much faster than they originally anticipated.

Since day one, I’ve known the owner, Jack, to be a hard-working and selfless leader. Through the efforts of him and his team, he was able to restore my flooded restaurant to tip-top shape. I was amazed with Jack’s orderliness throughout the entire process. Jack has proven to me that he is trustworthy, as both a friend and an individual in the work environment.

Highly recommend Soil-Away. A pipe in our upstairs bathroom gave and sent water down through a wall for at least a day before we noticed water dripping through our kitchen ceiling. Our insurance put us in touch with Soil-Away and they were at our house the next morning to assess the damage and dry things out. Joe, Ray and Tom were phenomenal to work with. They explained every part of the process to us and were very professional and friendly. If you have to deal with similar issues call Soil-Away, you won’t regret it.
